The Houston Texans have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2023 NFL season as they’ve managed to win more games through eight weeks than most expected.
The Texans came into their Week 9 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3-4 and found themselves in a shootout during the afternoon.
Both Houston and Tampa Bay took turns trading scores, with the game coming down to a thrilling fourth quarter.
CJ Stroud had his best game as a pro as he threw for 470 yards, setting a rookie record, and five touchdowns.
However, Stroud and the Texans were without their starting kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn in the second half as he suffered a quad injury.
Houston was forced to trot out backup running back Dare Ogunbowale as their replacement kicker and he managed to hit a go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter from 29 yards out via NFL.

It was a bizarre occurrence to witness as Ogunbowale had never kicked a field goal before his attempt, but fortunately, he was able to boot it through to give the Texans a 33-30 lead.
Ogunbowale also handled kickoff responsibilities, and he did so admirably as he managed to keep special teams afloat.
However, Houston may be without Fairbairn for the foreseeable future depending on the severity of his injury, so they could be looking for replacements throughout the week.
For now, though, the Texans and their fans will happily enjoy the win and should feel good about the direction of the franchise after the performance Stroud put on.
