The Los Angeles Angels had a glimmer of hope they could bring back Shohei Ohtani.
He was their prized possession and the reigning AL MVP.
But, the lack of success that the Angels had with Ohtani was astonishing.
You could argue the Angels had the two best players in the AL on their team, Mike Trout and Ohtani.
But, Trout could never stay healthy, and the rest of the Angels roster was pulling Ohtani down.
It was all but a foregone conclusion that Ohtani was going to leave in free agency after many years of losing.
That is exactly what Ohtani decided to do as he chose to sign a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It had to hurt seeing Ohtani leave and join their crosstown rivals.
But, the Angels did not waste any time moving on from the two-way star.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Angels had the Ohtani mural outside their stadium taken down just hours after his announcement.
Rosenthal found that rather harsh after all Ohtani gave to the Angels organization.
Fair Territory!
The Angels didn’t even wait for the deal to become official before taking down Shohei’s mural!

The fact of the matter is the mural could not stay up.
If they knew Ohtani was not going to re-sign with them it makes sense they were prepared to take it down.
The two-time AL MVP will get his chance to return to Angel Stadium next season.
It will be interesting to see how Ohtani is received by the Angels and their fans.
He should be given a loud ovation as he tried his best to carry the franchise over the past six seasons.
