Game 2 of the National League Division Series appeared to be leaning to the Philadelphia Phillies’ side at the conclusion of the fifth inning.
Zack Wheeler held the Atlanta Braves scoreless through five and to one run after six frames.
In the end, he still pitched a good game, with 6.1 innings of three runs (two earned) and 10 strikeouts.
At that point after the fifth, though, he looked unhittable and his team was up four runs.
He hadn’t even conceded any hits through the first five innings.
That, and the Braves’ subsequent reaction and comeback win represented a recipe for history being made at Truist Park.
“The Braves are the only team in MLB postseason history to be down by 4 runs or more with no hits through five innings and still win the game,” The Sporting News tweeted, citing a data bit from OptaSTATS.

Thanks to Ronald Acuna Jr.’s basrerunning prowess, Austin Riley and Travis d’Arnaud’s power, and Michael Harris II’s incredible catch in the ninth inning (and a brilliant play by Riley in the relay throw to double off Bryce Harper and end the game), the Braves were able to make history.
They went from potentially being in an 0-2 hole like the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles, to tying the series at one victory apiece in a matter of seconds.
Now, Atlanta and Philadelphia will basically play a best-of-three series with two of those games being at the Braves’ home park.
This is far from over, and we still have many exciting moments to look forward to.
