Up until 2017, the winner of the MLB All-Star Game received a grand prize: that league would have home-field advantage in the World Series.
However, this was perceived as unfair and people didn’t like the fact that an exhibition game was the deciding factor for such an important rule.
That’s why, since 2018, home-field advantage in MLB is determined by regular-season record.
The Atlanta Braves have had a marvelous campaign, and with their sweep of the Chicago Cubs, they locked up the best record in baseball.
It’s currently 103-56, and nobody can catch the Braves at this point.
As a result, they have secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as MLB on FOX states.

What does this mean to the Braves?
Well, if the Division Series goes to five games, they will host three of them.
If the Championship Series (provided they make it that far) goes to the max, four games will be played in Atlanta.
Likewise, if the Braves go to the World Series and it goes to seven contests, four of them will be played at Truist Park.
It’s an important competitive edge, although it doesn’t guarantee success.
In the American League, the Baltimore Orioles have locked up home-field advantage throughout the Championship Series.
They have the same benefit as the Braves by virtue of their excellent 100-59 record.
However, if there is an Orioles – Braves World Series, the latter would hold the home-field advantage.
This weekend will help us clarify the Wild Card race in both leagues and determine the exact playoff bracket in both leagues.
We are almost there!
