The Milwaukee Brewers lost important people in the offseason.
First, longtime executive David Stearns signed with the New York Mets.
Then, the Chicago Cubs took manager Craig Counsell off their hands, too.
The team refuses to give up, though, and has made moves thinking about today and tomorrow.
On Monday, they announced a contract extension with uber-prospect Jackson Chourio worth $82 million.
After that, they made sure to reinforce their pitching staff with two low-key underrated moves.
“The Brewers are now signing veteran pitcher Joe Ross, as well as Wade Miley, per @ByRobertMurray, in busy day for Brewers,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

Miley is perhaps the more prominent acquisition of the two.
He posted a 3.14 ERA with the Brewers last season, in 120.1 frames.
He is not dominant or overpowering, but as his 2023 ERA suggests (and his career 4.06 mark), he is a solid backend option that minimizes hard contact and gets outs.
Ross, on the other hand, is more of a lottery ticket at this point.
He is still relatively young at 30 years old, but hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021.
2022 and 2023 were filled with injuries for him.
In the 2021 campaign with the Washington Nationals, Ross pitched 108 innings with a 4.17 ERA and 109 strikeouts against 34 walks.
In 14 innings in the minor leagues this year with the San Francisco Giants after undergoing his second career Tommy John surgery back in 2022, he averaged 96 mph on his sinker in three games.
Ross is the definition of a low-risk, high-reward signing for the low-budget Brewers.
