The New York Jets didn’t hesitate to trade whatever asset it took to get Aaron Rodgers to the Big Apple.
That was a risky decision, as Rodgers was already considering retirement, and he was 39 years old.
Not many players are able to stay sharp deep into their 40s, so Rodgers’ arrival was going to be most likely a one or two-year rental.
Even so, they refused to sign him to injury insurance heading into the season, according to a report by Daniel Libit (via Dov Kleiman).

The report states that they got multiple offers to do so, and will now be on the hook for $20 million-plus over their refusal to do so.
Apparently, the Green Bay Packers did that every single year heading into the season, but the Jets declined to do that.
The report stated that an insurance expert claimed that they should’ve taken the insurance policy at any cost if someone was actually willing to insure a 39-year-old quarterback with 19 years of service on his back.
Apparently, the Jets would’ve only had to pay from $1 to $4 million for the insurance, so they’ll now have to pay an additional $16 to $19 million over that costly decision.
Rodgers is already walking without his crutches, defying pretty much every single thing we knew about Achilles recovery, and he’s reportedly looking forward to coming back at some point in the season.
That would be unprecedented, but it could at least make the Jets feel less bad about themselves for not making this investment.
