The National Football League is a quarterback’s league, and that statement is more real now than ever.
You cannot win unless you’re set at the QB position.
Even if everything else fails and you don’t put your quarterback in a position to succeed, you’re going to have a better chance to win with a good signal-caller; that’s just obvious.
However, this season has seen multiple teams giving young players the chance — and the responsibility — to lead them to success.
According to Adam Schefter, this Sunday will equal the record for the most rookie quarterbacks getting at least one start in a season (9).
With Cardinals’ QB Clayton Tune and Vikings’ QB Jaren Hall set to start Sunday, there will have been nine rookie quarterbacks who started a game through the first nine weeks of the season. The NFL record for a full season is nine.
Panthers: Bryce Young
Texans: CJ Stroud… https://t.co/YfUBrKvbTI— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 4, 2023
The Minnesota Vikings are set to start Jaren Hall with Kirk Cousins done for the season and Joshua Dobbs just getting there.
The Arizona Cardinals will do the same with Clayton Tune, as Kyler Murray hasn’t fully recovered from his torn ACL, and they just traded Joshua Dobbs away.
The other rookie QBs who have made at least one start this season are Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), C.J. Stroud (Houston Texans), Anthony Richardson (Indianapolis Colts), Will Levis (Tennessee Titans), Aidan O’Connell (Las Vegas Raiders), Dorian Thompson-Robinson (Cleveland Browns), and Tyson Bagent (Chicago Bears).
We still have the second half of the season ahead of us, so there’s still a chance that we get to see other rookies taking the field at some point, either because of injuries — or to prevent injuries from happening — or because teams have already given up on the season and want to get a glimpse of what they have on their hands.
