The New York Yankees are red-hot.
They swept the Houston Astros in the opening week, and they defeated the reigning NL champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks, on Monday.
Overall, they have a 5-0 record heading into Tuesday’s action, and they will face the D-Backs again.
The tests keep getting tougher, though: on Tuesday, they will be facing elite right-hander Zac Gallen.
With an improved offense, solid defense, and fantastic bullpen performance, they are prepared to compete with anyone.
Their 5-0 start is tied to some franchise history.
They haven’t been this good to open a season in more than 30 years: 32 to be exact.
“The @Yankees start 5-0 for the first time since 1992!” MLB tweeted.

The season is very, very long, but starting off with a 5-0 record is impressive anyway.
There is a reason a winning franchise like the Yankees hadn’t done it in the last 32 years: it’s very difficult.
Oddly enough, that 1992 campaign was the last one with a negative record for New York.
After those first five wins, they collapsed and finished 76-86, missing the postseason.
It would mark the start of long, sustained revival that had its climax a few years later with four World Series championships in a span of five years between 1996 and 2000.
The 2024 Yankees might have their flaws, but they are leaving no doubts that they intend to seriously compete and fight for a place in the postseason and, potentially, the World Series.
The most impressive thing of their hot start is that they are doing it without some key players like Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu, Scott Effross, Lou Trivino, and others.
They have played admirably, and there is room to improve.
