The Cincinnati Bengals are in a complicated spot right now.
They spent a lot of money on Joe Burrow — as they should have — and they need to keep his weapons around him.
Both Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are set to become free agents, and that’s obviously a major issue, as they might not be able to pay both.
With that in mind, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Bengals are expected to franchise tag Higgins and then let Tyler Boyd hit free agency (via Dov Kleiman).

Of course, Boyd testing free agency doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to leave, but given the shortage of wide receivers in this upcoming free-agent class and how several teams are in need of help at the position, it’s hard to envision that being the case.
The Bengals had one of the best offenses in the game, but things could be very different next season.
Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan left to become head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and they could lose one of their key contributors in the passing game.
Needless to say, the No. 1 priority will be to keep Ja’Marr Chase with the team for years to come, which is why the Bengals might need to make tough decisions and save up for his payday.
Even so, they should be a competitive team for as long as Joe Burrow is healthy and has enough time and space to operate, but it’ll still be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
