The consensus right now is that Caleb Williams, out of the University of Southern California, is the best player and prospect in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, as he has all the tools to be a superstar on the next level and could potentially be the right player to turn things around for the Chicago Bears.
Once Williams is presumably off the board at No. 1 overall, things get interesting in the draft, with J.J. McCarthy being one quarterback that has skyrocketed up draft boards as of late, as some believe he’s the perfect kind of quarterback that can turn an NFL franchise into a winner as he did with the Wolverines.
The first three teams on draft day later this month will likely target quarterbacks unless something changes between now and then.
The Bears are targeting Williams, while the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots will have tough decisions to make at Nos. 2 and 3 overall.
According to Mike Kaldick of WEEI via JPA Football, the Patriots might be favoring McCarthy at No. 3.
“De factor general manager Eliot Wolf is pushing hard for McCarthy, and he believes he has as much upside as any quarterback in this draft,” Pauline said.

With the Patriots recently trading Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England will be looking for their quarterback of the future, as the team might lean on veteran Jacoby Brissett for the time being while developing whichever quarterback they may decide to go within the draft.
It’ll be interesting to see who is available at No. 3 and what the Patriots may choose to do.
