Professional football is the most physically imposing sport and NFL players are treated like gladiators because of their willingness to play through pain.
The NFL has drawn criticism for the amount of contact it allows and how it endangers each and every player.
Although the league has implemented and enforced rules to protect offensive players, injuries are still going to happen no matter what.
However, just because injuries can occur at any time doesn’t mean that players are absolved of their responsibilities to keep their bodies in shape.
The best athletes in the world are the ones that take care of themselves and Tiki Barber said that a player has to take responsibility via WFAN Sports Radio.
“At some point it becomes your responsibility to be healthy,” Barber said.

Barber discusses how early in his career he always got hurt and needed to change his way of thinking when it came to preparing for seasons.
He goes on to say that the work he did to improve his body made him more durable and a stronger player on the field.
This current generation of players is fortunate to have access to more advanced healing and recovery technologies than Barber’s era did.
The focus on player health has allowed NFL athletes to play longer and more effectively. Still, players are also starting to understand the importance of staying consistent with their workout plans.
Barber’s message will be important for new players coming into the league as they’ll never be too young to start taking care of their bodies and staying available for their teams.
