The Los Angeles Dodgers invested important resources to get Tyler Glasnow to reinforce their pitching staff.
They traded young, controllable pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca to get Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot from the Tampa Bay Rays.
To agree to the deal, Glasnow requested an extension, and got one: he will be paid over $136 million for the next five seasons.
Used to wearing No. 20 with the Rays, Glasnow has made a change.
“Tyler Glasnow will wear No. 31 for the Dodgers. It was his Little League number, he said,” Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya tweeted.

Glasnow can’t wear No. 20 in LA because it is retired.
It’s the number Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton wore while in Los Angeles, and it was retired in 1998, ten years after his retirement.
That’s what forced Glasnow to look for a new one.
It will be the start of a new chapter for the talented right-hander, who posted a 3.53 ERA in 120 innings last season with the Rays.
His 37/162 BB/SO ratio and 1.08 WHIP are proof that he returned to full ace form last season following Tommy John surgery in his right elbow.
He is a bona fide ace when it comes to talent.
Availability, however, is another story.
His career-high in innings is 120: yes, the ones he threw last season.
Injuries continually get in the way for Glasnow, but the Dodgers could use an injection of talent and they are definitely getting it from the righty.
He will join Bobby Miller, Walker Buehler, Ryan Yarbrough, and Emmet Sheehan on the staff, while the Dodgers seek Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
