The Baltimore Orioles have a rich history.
They have won the pennant seven times and the World Series on three occasions: 1966, 1970, and 1983.
That’s why their awful performance from 2017 to 2021 was so disappointing: older fans know that the O’s are one of MLB’s traditional franchises, a team that had Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Cal Ripken Jr., Mike Mussina, and many other all-time greats at some point.
But since 2019, Baltimore has been doing all the right things even if their win-loss record hadn’t reflected it.
Their on-field turnaround started in 2022, when they went 83-79 and actually fought for a postseason spot until September.
This season, however, has been insanely and unexpectedly great.
Baltimore not only won its 100th game on Thursday, but they also secured their first AL East title since 2014.
“‘Go crazy, Baltimore. You are the champions of the American League East.’ Kevin Brown on the call as the Orioles clinch the American League East and the No. 1 seed in the American League,” Awful Announcing tweeted.
Except there was nothing awful with this.

The 100-59 Orioles are enjoying their best season in a while.
They hadn’t won 100 games or more since 1980, a span of 43 years.
But Adley Rutschman, Cedric Mullins, Gunnar Henderson, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle, Heston Kjerstad, Jordan Westburg, Anthony Santander, Grayson Rodriguez, Kyle Bradish, Yennier Cano, Felix Bautista, Dean Kremer, and many other important contributors are ready to try their luck in the postseason.
They will be doing it as AL East champs and enjoying home-field advantage through the American League Championship Series, should they make it that far.
