The San Francisco Giants made a couple of major investments in the 2023-24 offseason.
They brought in one hitter for their lineup, Korean center fielder Jung Hoo Lee, and one pitcher for the rotation in Jordan Hicks.
They also traded for Robbie Ray and brought in Tom Murphy and Ethan Small, but Lee is the one that has fans excited for what’s to come.
Sure, some of that is the allure of the unknown: Lee has been a star in South Korea’s KBO for years, so it’s exciting to see if his numbers and skillset can translate to MLB.
We don’t know that, and nobody does.
What we do know is that he is already putting in the work in the batting cage, well ahead of the start of spring training for position players.
The league’s official Twitter account posted a video of Lee taking some swings in the cage.

Lee might not be a star power hitter, but his hit tool and plate discipline are off the charts.
In seven seasons in the KBO, his slash line was a phenomenal .340/.407/.491 with a .898 OPS.
The batting average, in particular, is really impressive and tells us his contact skills and barrel control are unbelievable.
Lee also has some power (65 home runs in those seven seasons back home) and speed (69 stolen bases).
He is also very athletic and a very solid defensive center fielder, which will benefit the Giants’ pitching staff.
Everything is ready for Lee to show the world how his skills adapt to the best and most demanding league in the world.
