Since Monday, New York Yankees fans have been holding their breath because Gerrit Cole, the team ace, was sent for an MRI on his right elbow.
The results were made public on Wednesday… well, sort of.
The Yankees’ doctors and other specialists reviewed the film and the images and while none of them saw a tear in the UCL, there are enough doubts and concerns that they recommended Dr. Neal ElAttrache to take a live look and assessment of the patient.
Dr. ElAttrache is one of the country’s most renowned sports surgeons.
The Yankees, just in case, already ruled Cole out for a month, maybe two.
Fortunately for the Yankees, Dr. ElAttrache will be able to see Cole almost immediately.
“Gerrit Cole (elbow) is scheduled to see Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles today. Aaron Boone said the Yankees expect more information tonight,” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

You could very much say that this is the most important appointment that a Yankees player has had in recent history.
Cole is the heart and soul of the rotation.
He is just not the ace of the squad: he is the best pitcher in the American League and his 2023 Cy Young award proves it.
Losing him for a long period of time would be a huge hit for the Yankees’ chances.
Depending on Dr. ElAttrache and his assessment of the situation, it could be much, much longer than that.
The whole Yankees universe is praying that there isn’t a hidden tear, a flexor muscle strain, or anything serious.
