The New York Yankees have had to battle injuries to start their 2024 campaign, like every other team in the league.
One of them was to their ace, Gerrit Cole, who is inching closer to a return but is still weeks away.
Other than Cole, however, their starters have remained relatively healthy.
Not only that, but they have been consistently good and have spared the bullpen with their stellar play and durability.
“Yankees starters have gone at least 4 innings in all 52 games this season. That’s their 2nd-longest such streak to start a season in franchise history, behind only 58 straight to begin the 1904 season,” MLB stats expert Sarah Langs tweeted.

MLB seasons are very, very long: the 162 games plus the playoffs means they are playing more than half of the year.
When a starter gets shelled and has to depart the game in the first or second inning, it taxes the bullpen as the unit is now required to complete the 27 outs.
Well, the Yanks haven’t had that problem because every one of their five starters have pitched at least four frames in each and every one of their starts.
Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Carlos Rodon, and Luis Gil have all been magnificent, and they have covered their fair share of innings to keep the relievers fresh.
Not only have they been durable, but they have also been excellent.
All of them, really.
Cortes has the worst ERA of the bunch… at 3.29!
The Yankees are first in the AL East with a 3.5-game cushion, and it’s largely because of their phenomenal starting pitching.
