The New York Yankees are looking to make whatever moves necessary this offseason to get back into contention.
The trade for San Diego Padres outfielder Juan Soto will go a long way in achieving that.
Soto and Aaron Judge will give the Yankees one of the best outfield duos in baseball.
Also, batting them consecutively in the order will cause fear for opposing pitchers.
But, adding a star hitter was just one of the issues the Yankees needed to fix.
They also needed to address their pitching.
You can never have enough quality arms on a roster.
To have success over a full season you have to have a good bullpen.
That was one of the Yankees’ strengths last season.
Even though it did not result in many wins, the Yankees had the best bullpen ERA in baseball at 3.34.
According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees added another veteran arm to their bullpen in Matt Gage.
Yankees claim lefty reliever Matt Gage. He’d been placed on waivers by the Astros. Upstate NY native.

Gage has very little MLB experience but he did start his MLB career with the Toronto Blue Jays.
He debuted for them in 2022 where he threw 13.0 innings with a 1.38 ERA.
Last season, he pitched 6.2 innings for the Houston Astros and had an ERA of 2.70.
Gage is not expected to be a difference-maker for the Yankees.
But, he could be a decent left-hander out of the bullpen.
Gage will have to fight for his spot in Spring Training.
Sometimes it is the small moves that no one notices that pay off during the season.
The Yankees are hoping Gage can pay off for them.
