In 2022, Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez hit not one, but two late go-ahead home runs in the Division Series against the Seattle Mariners, one of them of the walk-off variety.
In the World Series, he hit the game-changing homer against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series.
This year, Alvarez has already hit six dingers in the playoffs, with 13 RBI.
Few players have had the kind of impact for their teams that Alvarez has had on the Astros in postseason play, particularly in the last two years.
With three RBI in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers, Alvarez showed that he can also be productive even when the ball doesn’t leave the yard.
What he is doing in the playoffs is nothing short of amazing.
The folks at DataBase Hit help us paint a clearer picture about what he is doing, both in 2023 and career-wise.

In 55 postseason games, Alvarez has 39 RBI, 12 homers, and a .544 slugging percentage.
As stated, some of those homers and key hits come when his team needs him the most.
Some people are starting to call him “Baby Papi,” in reference to David Ortiz’s “Big Papi” nickname.
In fact, both are very much alike: incredible hitters for contact and power who are amazing in the regular season and otherworldly in the postseason.
