San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish has been one of the best and most fascinating pitchers in the league since joining the Texas Rangers in 2012.
One of the deepest and most varied repertoires in baseball, a 3.59 ERA, and 34.3 fWAR (Wins Above Replacement) certify his dominance for a little more than a decade, but he wants more.
He wants to win a World Series, the one that got away from him when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.
Now that he is on the Padres, he has tasted postseason baseball again, even though 2023 was a failure.
But he is eager to look ahead, not back.
And ahead of him, there is an exciting start looming: Opening Day against the Dodgers in South Korea.
As the most respected member of the Padres rotation, he got the nod for the first game of the season in the Seoul Series.
“Yu Darvish on getting the Padres opening day start in Korea: ‘Obviously very happy and honored about this. I’ve never been to Korea before, so that makes it even more special,’” 97.3 The Fan tweeted, with Darvish’s quotes.

It’s the first time he will go to Korea, and he will do it with an important task in mind: limiting the Dodgers’ deadly lineup.
It won’t be easy, but if anybody can do it, it’s Darvish.
Tyler Glasnow will be toeing the rubber for LA in that game, which will take place on March 20.
Always classy, Darvish says he is “honored” by getting the start.
Once he gets up on the mound, however, we will see him in his gameday fashion: a true competitive beast.
