After starting the 2023 NFL season on a high note, the Miami Dolphins struggled down the second half of the year and eventually lost in the Wild Card round to the Kansas City Chiefs.
During the regular season, the Dolphins looked unstoppable offensively largely thanks to Tyreek Hill and Raheem Mostert but the duo was unable to mask the defensive struggles the team had.
Miami’s defense was solid for most of the season, but they were decimated by injuries down the stretch and thus couldn’t get enough stops to get over the hump.
One of the biggest losses the Dolphins suffered was along the edge as outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips tore his Achilles in November.
Phillips has been a rising star on the Miami defense and is highly productive rushing the passer, so his absence was definitely felt.
However, it appears that Phillips is making excellent progress in rehab as he said he’ll be ready for the start of the 2024 NFL season, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
“Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips, recovering from his Black Friday torn Achilles, tells ESPN during UM spring game that ‘I’ll definitely be back healthy for the season,’” Jackson tweeted.

Modern medicine has made it easier for players like Phillips to return from Achilles injuries and it sounds like he is optimistic that’ll he be good to go for Week 1.
While he might not resemble himself right away, it’s good news that he’ll even be back on the field contributing in some capacity.
A healthy Phillips and revamped defensive scheme could make the Dolphins a team to watch out for come the next playoffs.
