MusicGen is a new generative AI tool developed by Meta that allows users to transform textual descriptions into short musical clips. With just a few seconds of input text, MusicGen generates corresponding musical compositions. Additionally, users can pair their descriptions with additional music tracks, which MusicGen utilizes as references during the creative process.
According to Meta, the system powering MusicGen was trained on a vast dataset of 20,000 hours of music. This training data includes 10,000 high-quality music tracks and 390,000 instrumental tracks sourced from platforms like ShutterStock and Pond5.
As generative AI tools continue to advance, MusicGen represents Meta’s entry into the field, joining other notable companies like OpenAI (with Jukebox) and Google (with MusicLM) in exploring new ways to generate content, including text, images, videos, and music.
